Hey guys, quick question, can you do surgery if you have a broken pinky? Cuz my pinky is broken on my right finger, I can't fully bend it towards my hand all the way

Presumably the fracture will heal eventually without much sequelae if you are dealing with an acute injury.

If you are asking about a chronic restricted range of motion, the 5th finger is not an essential contributor to surgical skills. Many surgeons have lost entire fingers or have much more severe injuries.

I heard of a surgeon that broke his pinky and managed to do surgery by having a bunch of little sterile finger splints. He'd take off his splint and then scrub, then put on a sterile splint and then glove. aparently he did this for 3 months!

Since I made the claim that I had more surgical skill in my small finger than any of my fellow residents, I have been forced to operate with only my pinky fingers. As long as you avoid similar boastings, it shouldn't be an issue.

There are so many options from which to choose though. Besides the thought that you may actually be eating the ham and cheese pannini that I tell you to get back to warms my heart. 😉
