Does anyone know if certification/training is required to take a job as a surgical first assistant? I'm looking at some jobs online but this particular hospital's job descriptions never list required experience or education.

Most are other surgeons or have a surgical technician degree from a technical college.

Yes, there is a certification for being a first assistant. There aren't alot of schools and in most hospitals / surgical centers a physician assistant is considered the "first assistant". A first assistant is sometimes an experienced surgical tech as well. So tt's not something you can take a test and become certified in without going through a program. Hope this helps.

it's really stupid that this HR website doesn't list these kinds of requirements for any of their jobs.

thanks for the help.

Thank GOD! I don't want some gunner/eager premed being first assistant on my surgery! Even if I were the eager premed! (this has nothing to do with OP, just made me think)
