Swiching to public health from bio- low science gpa/post bacc?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not going to sugar coat it. You need to retake Bio1, Chem2, and Orgo1. Don't waste your time retaking the math courses. from here on out though you need to be getting 3.7-4.0s through out the rest of your COLLEGE career. As well do great on the DAT. Cheers. Just a heads up, I got a C+ in Chem2 and Cell Biology and still got in..but my gpa semester grades were 3.7+ after the semester i took chem2 and cell bio. So you still have a chance to get in. no sweat, just do good from here. cheers and good luck. I believe in you.

Thank you so much. Should I retake them now or wait until I graduate and do a post bacc or take them again on my own? I talked to advising, and they suggested waiting until after I graduate so I have a clear head and a better start. I just don't know if dental schools will take me because I would've done so bad the first time and then switched into something non-science and only retook the prereqs.
You will never get into dental school doing what you are doing now or plan on doing in the near future. Your grades currently are not on par with what dental schools are looking for and yet you want to switch into something easier and apply with just the basic prereqs completed and retaken for higher grades? And without any higher science classes? That will not be impressive whatsoever unless you want your app thrown in the trashbin.

1. Switch to another major if you like.
2. Retaking those classes is a waste of time. However retaking Calc I is an absolute must. D's are unacceptable. Virtually all schools require a C minimum for all prereqs.
3. Revamp yourself and get a higher overall GPA and a high gpa per semester.
4. Take more higher level science courses and get A's in all of them. Physio, anatomy, microbio, biochem are prereqs now at many d schools. High grades in upper level sciences and throughout the rest of your college career may make up for past subpar grades at the discretion of admissions committees. You must prove to them that you can handle the rigors of advanced science courses because you will see them again in school. Looks like you still need to take physics too.
Likewise, if you cannot handle science courses now, or advanced college science courses down the road, you stand no chance at doing well in a post-bacc program. Some of which are just as hard as the classes in d school.

Just a heads up, the first two years of dental school are very heavy on biology. Anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, etc. You need to be prepared to do a lot of bio, and at a much higher level than undergrad, if and when you get to dental school.

I suggest reevaluating your study habits and taking it from there. Clearly whatever you are doing now in terms of studying is not working. From here on out, you need to get higher grades. I would suggest taking upper level bio courses and rocking them with B+ or higher grades. You don't need to retake classes with a C+, it might make life harder when applying, but if you make up for it with upper division classes, it should be fine.

I got into dental school with a D in Orgo 2, which I never retook. I believe it was overlooked because I went on to get A's in graduate level science courses and went on to graduate with a 3.7 in my Masters program. So it's not impossible to get in with some low grades. But you need to step it up from here on out.

I agree that you should move on and take upper division courses and get A's in the rest of your courses from here on out, but if your sGPA is still kinda low after you've done everything, id atleast still advising trying to retake a couple of those C's later in life to get it up to Par. My opinion.
