I know this is rare, and that the switch is always made the other way around. Anesthesia seems to "love" those who are from or have completed training in another specialty. Wondering if surgery is as accomodating.
I completed a prelim surgery year last year, and I'm now a CA-1, however I now do not feel as comfortable (or as excited) to be on this side of the drape as I was last year doing general surgery. Granted, I'm only a little over 2 weeks into my CA-1, and things are a bit overwhelming, but I'm actually really missing surgery. During my prelim year, us interns got into the OR almost daily, and got to operate quite a bit and I really enjoyed it. I'm not thinking about making a switch to surgery. I'm also very interested in doing global health/full time mission work and I feel that surgery will give me the most options in terms fo meeting my career goals.
Anyone with any advice, or know of anyone who has made such a switch and how they went about it?
thanks.
