Hi everyone,

I have been in a dilemna in the past three years. I've been applying to Dental schools in the USA and Canada but keep on getting rejected. I am a Canadian, finished an Undergrad in Health Science with a 3.6 GPA, but had low DATS, 16's to 19's. Anyways, after alot of disappointment with my application results, I applied to the Ajman University of Science and Technologie's Dental school and am now enrolled. This school is in the UAE and about 1 hour away from Dubai. Since coming here to the DDS program, I noticed that my asthma has returned from the dusty air and heat, as well, I really miss North America and my family, and find that the system here is really behind. I would like to reapply to the USA this year for Dental school and so I will begin re-studying for my DAT's to hopefully do better. My question is, "do I mention in my application that I am currently a Dental student abroad", and "will Dental schools look at this negatively" ? Any advice would be great.

Your situation is unique.
I would call some US dental schools and ask them these questions.

I don think schools look at this negatively if you have a good personal statement.

Hi Wizi,

Thanks for your reply. Tufts said it might affect the app negatively since they like to see that students finish what they started however every student has conditions that exceeds their control in which they consider. Other schools just said bluntly to apply for first year or finish the program and apply for advanced standing.

I pro-actively went abroad to begin living my dream in becoming a Dentist but I don't want to end this dream because of the stuff I mentioned before.

The "dusty air" you describe is not unlike the quality of air you will see in a number of large metro areas with dss.

Wait... You got advice from Tufts and "other schools" but you think the advice from pre dents is going to be more valuable?

Hi Doc toothace,

What Other schools said was somewhat different from what Tufts said although Tufts said to back up my circumstances. I'm only asking for personal advice on SDN as I would like to know other's opinions since other dental schools weren't as stern as Tufts reply. What would you do or say if you are in my position?
