i am gonna be a pharm d student but still have that nagging feeling in the back of my head that i should become a doctor...is it possible to still continue the pharm d program or at least try it and still be able to switch out and go pre med?? will the first two years cover the things i need for pre-med IF i decide out of pharmacy?? will my first year experience be enough for me to really see if pharmacy is for me??

One hour & you're so impatient for an answer????

The rest of us are still reading the many threads which have already been posted on this subject.

Search or just skimming down the page or to the next 2 or 3 pages will give you some insight....

Good luck!

You know, if you can't answer this question yourself, and you think yuo are entitled to an answer to your question in an hour, I say you might want to reconsider any sort of advanced education. If this is how you handle things, I don't think you're ready for higher ed.

yes, you can drop out of pharmacy school and apply to med school fresh the next year

no, they are two COMPLETELY different professional schools..it's not like transfering from a university to another university, etc

i meant that i am coming from high school to usp's 6 yr program and was wondering if the first two years which would be pre pharmacy i guess is enough to help me make my decision

compare the pre-pharm program courses and then compare the courses required by various med schools..if they are the same then you're in luck. you may have to take a coupla extra ones if med schools require them

during the course of the pre pharm years, will i gain enough experience and perspective on how pharmacy will be?

Since you said that you are going to be a 0+6 PharmD candidate, the first couple of years will probably consist of those foundation science courses (gen chem, organic chem, etc). Unless your school has integrated pharmacy experience, you have to get that perspective yourself.

Regarding your original question, many of the courses in your first two years will carry over to pre-med. In general, a few pre-pharm classes won't apply to pre-med and med schools tend to require additional courses. Some schools require genetics, biochem, etc. However, I believe a switch would not delay your goals like changing from a science major to an art major for example.🙂

JOb shadowing would be a quick way to see where your interests really lie. And it's cheaper than school. School doesn't really give you a true feel for practice, especially not prerequisite coursework.
