Hi All,

I've been a lurker for a while but now wish to get some advice on the following situation:

I am a non-trad who started taking pre-req courses this semester (Bio, Chem, and Physics) at two community colleges (Bio & Chem in one and Physics in another) because it was impossible to get a seat for all 3 classes in one institution. As you know, these courses are usually taken in a 2-course sequence. Would it be a big no-no if I switched college after this semester? I am seriously contemplating switching the bio to the other college (contingent on seat availability of course). The biggest problem I see is that the 2-course sequence is organized somewhat differently between the two schools and there may be overlap and potentially missed content by switching. And the second course is actually going to be the first course (consider the order of macro and micro switched) at the other college. I hope to compensate for this by doing some self-studying on my own. But how does an adcom look at this?

I took the bio prereq at 2 different schools. The each taught it in the opposite order. So I ended up taking 2 semesters of Bio "101". I got a letter from school B stating that I met the requirements and covered all the material.

Your situation seems a little different, in that some of the material might get skipped. Some schools might not like that, others may not care.

What reason do you have for swithching? If it's not a good one, save yourself the potential headaches and finish at the same school.

Thanks for your response, gman. It's good to know that this happens. There are a couple of reasons: 1) my schedule works best for that combination of classes; otherwise, I'll have to do some serious juggling 2) the instructor is very good at the other college (so I was told). Not that I have anything against the current instructor, but she's taught incorrect info multiple times and that could get really confusing, especially in a subject such as bio.

If I go that route, I will ask the school to generate a letter/statement such as yours.

I took my BIO's at different schools and my Physics at different schools. It was not mentioned at my interviews. I had a total of 7 different schools that I had attended.

I have 5 transcripts, some of them public, a couple of them private. The prerequisites are all over the place. This requires some juggling and understanding advisors, but it all works out. The final university is doing my degree plan now and I'm running course descriptions all over town.
