I was going for EM this past match and bypassed the DO match for the Allo match. BIG mistake. i had over 240 on both steps and 10 interviews but still didnt get EM. well i used the SOAP to get into a different 4 year residency. I have decided my heart is still in EM and will reapply for EM this year and scramble into possibly family if i dont get in again. My question is b/c my program was 4 years and I am working this year i will only have 3 years more of medicare coverage for residency. How will this affect my chances of getting into one of the 4 year osteopathic residencies who get coverage by using the first year as transitional and then the 3 further years for EM coverage. I dont think i will be covered for my last year. I know the big academic centers its not a huge problem but many DO programs arent at the big academic centers. I will also apply to three year allo EM but i will gladly stay in the DO match this year i just really want EM.
