Hi,

so recently I have saved enough money to leave my job as a medical claims specialist for an anesthesia provider. I also have been asked to fill an SI position for a genetics and general chemistry course at my uni, which I have not decided if I will do or not.
I would like to stay at either my job as a medical claims specialist, or begin to SI - but I cannot do both because I do not have time unfortunately.

I would prefer to SI from now on because it is less time consuming and gives me more time to study than my current job, but I do not want to leave my job if it looks better on med school applications. So, what should I do? Which looks better on me as a student?

Edit: also I should maybe mention I have been a claim specialist for four years, and I also work in a Microbiology research lab here at my school for credit (unpaid).
Can you please explain what SI is and what this position entails?

oh, yeah, sorry! SI stands for supplemental instructor, basically it is like a teaching assistant. You work alongside a professor for their class (my offer is for genetics or gen chem) and hold your own teaching/tutoring sessions and work with the professor to create more learning opportunities for the students taking the course.
And what year are you?

Regardless, I don’t think it will make a difference as neither are direct patient contact/clinical so you are just having a job.

Don't fret over "job switching".

I would think about what you have already experienced when it comes to clinical experience and whether you have at least 150 hours in clinical exposure. Now I don't know what patient contact you have in your medical claims job that has you interact with physicians or the health care team.

That said, you know yourself when it comes to your costs, your studies, and your time. Do what you can to keep your grades up and maintain a reasonable schedule.
