I think this is a difficult situation.
I have two interests, A is a new area for me and I just got some exposure on. For B I have conducted some studies in it so it may be more promising.
However, I interviewed at this clinical program and did not get accepted. I emailed earlier to the same professor to ask feedback on second time applying. After receiving the feedback, I said that I will be applying again.

I just checked on their website and found that ironically, a new faculty came and appear to be doing something similar to my primary interest (as A above). A and B are quite different areas.

I don't know what to do now. I don't want to lie about it. I like A better. But maybe stronger candidate for B. And at this point I don't know whether I should let my first POI know that I will be adding another area of research, or just throw it in the personal statement. I am leaning toward adding A interest as my first interest in my personal statement. That may mean that if the professor in area A doesn't like my apps, B may not invite me either.

But the most difficult thing is working with one professor while you are more interested in the professor's work next door.

I would like some feedback on this. If I am going to add the new POI's name and interest in my personal statement, should I email and explain this to my original POI?

Is my case kind of duned because they would perceive me having changing interests? But honestly this "new" interest that I have is not as new but I just did not get research experiences in it until this year.

Thanks for any feedback that you may have. The deadline is approaching.

Is there a way to combine your interests? I had a POI tell me to mention both him and the other POI I contacted in my SOP. Their areas of research are completely different.

The problem is who are you going to put first as I assume the one you put first or emphasize more in your SOP is the one you are most interested in?

I guess I am not sure any more how much portion of SOP is regarding your experiences and how much is regarding your future/POI's interests.

I guess it is two fields that are quite different to combine. But I will try.

Can you say specifically what your interests are? Maybe someone on this forum will have some suggestions on how you can combine.

When writing my SOP, I wrote a couple of sentences bout my POIs research in the paragraph where I discussed why I really wanted to attend the school.
