Hi! I was Pre-Med. I took the MCAT, and I wasn't too happy w/my score. I never attempted to retake it. And I never applied to any medical schools either. A year later (this year) I decided to pursue dentistry (my plan B). I have 3 rec letters for Medical school from last year and 4 for dental school from this year. Do you guys think that I should ask my advisor to not submit the rec letters intended for Medical School to the Dental Schools? Or is that okay? If someone can endorse me for medical school, shouldn't I be a good candidate for dental school as well ? Or do they not want to know that they're your 2nd choice. Also, wouldn't they see that you have taken the MCAT and question you about it during the interview, if you get one?

I think it's great you're pursuing the career YOU know you want to go into even though you know you have to do that much more work (i.e. take MCAT). I'm not sure what kind of rec letters you have but don't most of them just tell the reader about the candidate? If your letter writers specifically tailored it toward med school than I'd ask them to re-write it. With the increased competition, I think dental schools want to invest in students that know they want to go into that profession. Actually, I think you're experience would be great grounds for your personal statement. good luck! 👍

Have them send both sets of letters...you are right, being a good candidate for med school makes you a good candidate for dental school. Adcoms wont care which type of school the letter is written for...

Just make sure you don't bomb the DAT too

Good luck

Thanks for the input!!!

I agree with this.

I agree as well, I was premed my first year because my father was a physician, and then decided on dentistry for several reasons. In my personal statements I talked about the reasons why I wanted to pursue a MD, and then used everyone of those reasons for why I wanted to become a DDS. Good luck to you
