Hi, I'm Currently On My First Year Of Fp Residency In A Florida Program And Would Like To Change To Pathology. Can Anyone Advice Me On How To Go About It And What My Chances Are Of Actually Getting Into A Program? Thanks!

i don't know how easy it is, but i do know someone just recently switched from FP to pathology up here in baltimore. Sorry that doesn't help, but just saying it has been done...

God that's funny. The Original Poster Started Every Word With A Capital Letter. and then smelly cat used almost all lowercase. Smelly cat can you go edit that post and change "Sorry" to "sorry"? That would make my day.

Did you guys plan that? Cuz it's pretty ****ing funny.

Just messin with you all. I love all you guys who post on this forum.

People switch all the time. Sometimes it's tough to get things like LORs as well as coordinating things with your former med school (like transcript, etc) so try to get it done early, if possible. And you might be advised to try contacting a few programs ahead of time because often they will accept transferring residents outside of the match, early on. Not sure how often that happens but it does happen.

Otherwise, a lot of your chances depend on your qualifications as well as why you are switching. If you are running away from a criminal record your chances might be low...There are people on this forum who have switched specialties, and I met a bunch of residents during my interviews who had previously done a different residency. Glad you have seen the light!
