Hello all,
I'm a bit new to this area of SDN.
Anyways, here's some info about me:
I graduated last May from a big, private east-coast school, where I studied music performance. During my UG years, I was pre-med and took most of the pre-reqs. Currently, I'm back in my home state, in the south, doing a post-bacc at a local 4-year college. I also volunteered at a hospital (120 hours).
Well, the reason why I'm considering dentistry is mostly because of the artistic factor and the ability to continue using my hands. Being a musician, I have developed a good sense of manual dexterity, which may allow me to become a good dentist. I also like the idea of managing a small-business. To clarify, I'm not interested in dentistry because it is "easier." That statement is ridiculous, since I believe that both medicine and dentistry are challenging in their own ways.
My stats: cumGPA--3.258, sciGPA (math+science) is under 3.0--this is because I wasn't a science major, so I took very few science classes, and the science classes I did take, I didn't do so well (juggling classes with countless hours of rehearsals). I've completed my first Post-Bacc semester, and got a 3.8 GPA (both cumulative and science). I'm planning to complete a total of 2 Post-bacc years to raise my science GPA. Also, I never took the MCAT, nor prepared for it, so hopefully that'll make it easier for me to switch?
I'm planning on shadowing a dentist this spring or summer. I'm hoping there's a summer program out there for me to get some dental exposure.
Am I on the right track?
I'm new to this, so any help/suggestions are much welcomed.
Thanks!
