So i got accepted to Uop, and i will be starting at UOP on July 10th... but, i also got waitlisted at UCSF! I might want to start at UCSF if i do get off of the waitlist... chances are that i might not get off the waitlist till after i start at UOP....

now the question is, will ucsf kick me off the waitlist ... when it finds out i am already attending uop? or, will i get 2 weeks of time to decide if i want to take the spot or not? if i do want to take the spot... can i just drop out of uop after it has started (even though 99% chances are that i wont do that)? is it even possible to do so? if so, wat are the penalties??

Wow, that would be a total low-blow to UoP if you left AFTER their school year began. What would they do with that open spot?? When does UoP start? I recently withdrew my name from the UCSF waitlist, but I talked with Bob beforehand and he said the wait can be long (really depends on where you are on the waitlist of coures).

Whether or not UCSF kicks you off the waitlist, I have no idea. Even if one of us does know the answer, you should call Bob directly instead of relying on a forum to be on the safe side (to be safe, and just in case of policy change).

Good luck either way...but UoP is a really good school, and it would suck if you waited till the very end and prevented someone else from going there.

i completely agree with u... i love UOP and have always wanted to go there... and i would not want to drop out of UOP! (infact, i am happy that i got waitlisted at UCSF)...

but, there is a very personal reason (cant disclose on the open forum) that there is a very very low chance that i might have to do it.... so i just wanted to know wat would be the penalty! or if it is even possible!! i just want an opinion....

i understand my ethics... and i would not do so, until i absolutely had to!! but just wanna know wat the consequences would be....

thanks,

I see. well, Bob is super nice and I'm sure he's been asked this question before, and understands where you're coming from. Give him a call and let us know what he says. Good luck! 👍

You REALLY need to look into the financial aspects of your decision. You starting at Pacific means you receive your financial aid to attend Pacific. Well, when you switch over, you may not be eligible for Federal funds. Not sure, but I bet.

Plus....Pacific won't give you back the money you paid for kits, and such, again, a bunch of money....

They are both great schools and I think UCSF's cost is climbing and will likely climb more with the continuously chopping of funds for public schools.

BUT, if your personal reasons are 'daddy is paying for it' then I'd go where you will enjoy yourself the most! Or, you have a complex and you think UCSF is an IVY, then you better go there also. Or, you want to ride the N-Judah line every day, then go to UCSF. Or if you love the hippies on Haight street, then go to UCSF. Or if you want at least 3 buildings associated with your university, go to UCSF. Or if you hate Captain Sandwich, go to UCSF. Or if you like your safeway to be safe, go to UCSF.

But for all other logical reasons, we shall see you on July 10th!

For those interested, UoP has 1 or 2 top wait-listees show up to the first few weeks of class in case any of the above mentioned shenanigans occur.

Technically you can do whatever the heck you want. When you agree to attend a school there are no legal issues about withdrawing anytime as long as you meet the pre-reqs and pay tuition. Your situation is a little unique because the 2 schools begin at different dates. Chances are you should hear back from UCSF by May or June if you are high on the waitlist so you don't really have to worry much. I doubt by july there will be openings at UCSF and even so you can call Bob or James and see what number you are. If you are #1 on the waitlist in July, you might have a chance but even still, it's really rare someone drops out so late.

So in the meantime, chill out and be happy you got accepted at UOP. UOP is a f-ing great school.

Pac Heights is so much cooler an area to hang out in. I'd love to live in that area. Inner Sunset's kinda dull.

Even if you do a last minute switch to UCSF, you'll save a good deal of money just because UoP charges that much. The equipment fees don't matter much, because you'll be purchasing equipment. Once you go to practice, you'll be buying so much more equipment, and you can simply use UoP-supplied equipment later down the line. What's going to hurt is the tuition. Make sure you know when the refund deadlines are.

Back in the Dark Ages when I attended school...I was accepted at UOP and was on the waitlist at UCSF. As soon as I accepted UOP's offer, I got a letter from UCSF taking me off of their waitlist. (How do you say...collusion?). The letter said something like since they see that I have accepted UOP they assume I am no longer interested in UCSF and have cancelled my waitlist status. Since I had no idea of what the likelyhood of getting off their waitlist was, I made no fuss about it. But UCSF was considerably cheaper was was my father's alma mater. There was a arrangement between the two schools at that time. Don't know about now though.

thanks for the positive feedback...

i thought about contacting the schools and asking them about it... but, then wondered, if it would affect my present status at the schools in any ways!! what if my question about switching was taken too literally by UCSF... would that affect me in any negative ways?
