Has any of you pre-opts worked for Visionworks and/or any of the other brands like Eyemasters etc under ECCA [Eye Care Centers of America]?

I want to know what was your experience like in the hiring and working process. Was it good to switch there from another optical chain?
Also, how good is it on the application if say you work with the optometrist there?

I'll appreciate any informed responses.

Thanks

What state are you in? If GA I would strongly recommend you reconsider your plan.

I am in IL but do you mind sharing your experience at visionworks? I am being hinted for a lab tech position.

You can also pm me. I want to get some specifics between them like the working conditions and you have security of the number of hours. I am kind of perplexed about their interview process [lab, gm, district coord] interviews.

So no one else ever worked there? 🙄

You could try asking this question in the Optometry forum (rather than Pre-Optometry), although it seems to me that the majority of the practicing optometrists on these forums prefer private practices.

I worked for an optometrist next to an eyemasters, but it was in a mall. From what I understood about those who worked at eyemasters, they worked according to mall hours and days. Pretty much, there were only 3 days off in the whole year that we were closed, xmas, thanksgiving, and easter.

I think that ECCA pretty much helped with setting prices when it came to insurances. I only remembered once when a patient complained about pricing after insurances that the doctor called ECCA to make sure price for exam under insurances were correct.

About optometry experience, you do get a wide variety of patients, and you start learning about different contact brands and about insurances. Plus, since we were the only ones open on the weekends, we had a constant flow of patients for eye exams and eye infections. Being in school, the hours can be flexible if you want to just work weekends. To me, any optometry experience is a plus if you want to become an optometrist.

I think the doctors for EyeMasters are another independent chain, not employees of ECCA, if my information is correct?

I wanted to know the work conditions in the store. Is it really about just making $$$ that someone said? Their requirement of 4 jobs per hour in lab didn't seem bad to me..
