Hmmm, so many unanswered questions with this one...
1.) If the owner thought the cat may have licked the plate, why didn't they do something sooner?
2.) How did the cat get locked in the cabinet?

That's disturbing, although I've heard a few people talk about intentionally getting their animals high on marijuana by blowing smoke in their faces, so it's not that surprising.

I'm pretty sure my cat (Who I adopted a couple of months ago) was excessively exposed to some sort of drug by his previous owners. He's just not right in the head.

2.) How did the cat get locked in the cabinet?

If I leave my bedroom closet door open and turn my back for even a second, at least one of my cats manages to get in there (and wedged into some inaccessible dark corner on top of a pile of sweaters), usually without me seeing them. I have more than once forgotten to check and accidentally shut a cat in the closet. ...And these were times when I *hadn't* just served "plates of cocaine" at a dinner party!

sofficat, re: marijuana and cats. Cat brains have cannabanoid receptors just like our brains do, so I would guess that they are similarly affected by marijuana. But I've never asked one.

But over night? Both of my cats would be screaming bloody murder after even a short time locked in a cabinet!! Although I spose if the cat was high at the time it was locked in there, maybe it didn't even realize it!

hahaha! Noooo. But he does sort of look like that, only about 16 lbs heavier and short haired. (He's my fattie) Same face expression!

if a cat could smoke it, then yes we have the same mechanisms in our bodies, but just by breathing in what someone else has already smoked? People can't get high by that means (can they?) I'm so confused... 😛

Yes people can, and I assumed animals can too. You're still inhaling the drug whether or not you actually smoked it.

There is such thing as a "contact high"...my dad is a narcotics officer and he's actually come home a bit loopy because they were burning evidence and there were a bunch of wind changes to blow smoke in his face. (Not that I don't believe he might have intentionally gotten in the way of the smoke, he did grow up in the 70's 🙄)
Didn't know cats had receptors for that, you learn something new every day.

When I worked at an emergency vet hospital there was a girl there who used to work emergency in San Francisco. Yes, a cat can get high, and very sick if he eats enough of your stash! She told me they'd put the cat in a cage with a towel over the door and just wait it out. I believe the same happens with dogs. I've always been disgusted with people who intentionally try to intoxicate their animals like they are doing them a favor or something.

Not that it matters, but for the record, "contact high" actually refers to the psychological high that someone gets from just being around someone who is high and not about inhaling someone else's smoke.

Shotties get you high, and thats when you are inhaling the smoke somebody is exhaling i think that is the contact high she's talking about....not sure what the technical name for that is....

haha my dog loves beer if you spill some she'll knock you down to lick it up...she's a real party animal, its ok in moderation and as long as she isn't driving.


What about all the legal drugs pets are injesting every day??

Yep, sorry, I was a sheltered girl so my "lingo" isn't up to par.

Beer isn't so bad in moderation. It's given to some show animals (livestock, I don't know about dog shows) to calm them down before shows or auctions. There's also a town somewhere that elected a beer drinking goat as mayor. Talk about issues.....

Speaking of drugs, I brought home some seed packets one day that smelled strongly of mothballs (back when I worked for the dept of ag). Anyhoo, the cats started gnawing on the bags like they were covered in beefsteak and then after I took them away wandered around like they had done some sort of illegal drug. Can any aspiring biochem people explain that one?
