I just received acceptance letters from University of Sydney and Murdoch University in Australia. Does anyone know specifics about the schools. I was wondering if one has a better reputation or is better in certain fields than the other. Also, Murdoch will allow the first semester to be skipped because I have taken the courses, but I have not seen anything like that on the Sydney website. Thank you.

Hello!

I am in 3rd year at Sydney and it is pretty much impossible to skip a semester I think.

I don't know how the fees stack up but one thing to take into account is that Sydney has a far higher cost of living, rent in particular is a lot more expensive.

Lifestyle wise though, Murdoch is off in the 'burbs, whereas Sydney has a great location right in the city.....

I'm sure either is a good choice though 🙂

Hi
How long did it take for Sydney to respond? I just applied there, don't think i'll get in though, even though i really hope i can get in! I love the school and the city sounds awesome. Also did you recieve a physical letter or was it an e-mail?

Thanks

I had my application in during the first week of September and they sent me an email with an attachment two days ago.

Hey,
I don't know anything really about Sydney or the program there, but I will be attending Murdoch in July. Perth is a city of 1.4 mill even in the burbs its a big city comapred to most US cities🙂 . It'll cost be about $35,000 USD a year to attend Murdoch including my expenses, but excluding travel home to the US (I'm not sure if you're from the US or not becuase of your login name, so I'm not sure of your currancy) Murdoch will allow you to skip up to the first year, but as I understand the first semster or a few classes each semster is more common. Most international students martriculate in July from what I've gathered. I've found http://vetstudents.net/ to be a really helpful site. Good luck!

i just finished my first year at murdoch. can't say much about sydney, except i know they just opened a wildlife clinic that we covet here at murdoch.

what i like about murdoch is:
- i love perth. the climate was important for me, and it's a lot like
what i liked about southern california/arizona.
- the staff, throughout the university, are helpful to students. if
a problem arises with finances, personal life, etc, they seem willing
to work with you.
- outside a couple of crappy interactions, i've found most of the teaching
staff to be helpful and approachable.

i only applied to murdoch last year. since then, both sydney and
melbourne have also become accredited by the avma. i've worked
with vets from here and there, and they all seem equally good. likely,
any of the three will be a good choice. keep in mind it's what you
make of it. pick your specialty and lifestyle and go with it.

cheers!

I had decided on Murdoch because they would have let me skip first semester and I like the area better but I just got into Auburn University so I'm going there instead.
