I'm pretty sure this has probably been covered somewhere on this site but I just can't find it.

Does anyone have any travel information for SUNY-Upstate? I have an interview next week and if I need to buy plane tickets I should probably do it soon. I'll be traveling from NYC, so if anyone has any input from their own experiences (cheap tickets, rental car needed?, where to stay, etc) I'd be eternally grateful.

Hi, I study at Syracuse U. and travel to NYC very frecuently using Jetblue.com. It will probably be your cheapest and fastest mode of traveling. Also check orbitz.com for U.S air they sometimes have cheap fares.

As for staying in Syracuse and getting to the medical school, any information would be great.

I read somewhere else on this site that there is an Econolodge about 5 miles away. I figure I can call a cab in the morning.

stay at the university hotel. you can see it from the admissions building. its about 3-4 blocks from the hospital. i stayed there over st patricks day weekend. its a bit shaddy, but it will do for one night. i got a two bed place for $60, so it is really cheap...but you'll find out why.

you can walk right over to the interview. just try to get to the hotel before dark.

As for lodging there are several places that you could stay... depending on your budget. There is a days inn near the airport and a econo lodge near the university but it is not walking distance so you might need a cab. There is also a place called University hotel that goes for about 60 bucks a night. This place is not the most stellar place but it is within do-able walking distance from the medical campus.

The medical campus is basically next to Syracuse University so once you get to the S.U campus you can get there really quickly. Just ask some student walking around for Suny upstate.

what happens after dark? 😕

if it's really shady, i'd prefer spending the extra money for a safer place.

if the university hotel at $60 is shady, i'm guessing that the $40 econolodge won't be much better. any other places i can check out?

the econo lodge is not in a shady place it is just situated very inconviently for people who don't have cars. As for University hotel I think it would be oK to stay there I wouldn't be that worried it is not that shady but the hotel is not the greatest thats all. Another more expensive option would be the sheraton hotel which is nice and right on campus and Hotel Syracuse which is located downtown. Both hotels are pretty nice but a little more expensive.

Call the school and ask about staying with a student...They have a hosting program even though they don't post it anywhere. I did this and the students I stayed with walked me to my interview on their way to class.
