Does anyone use a tablet PC in Pharm School? Do you like it? Which one?

I have a tablet PC. The only real benefit of mine is that it is very light. I don't use the tabletting functions much.

Tablet PCs are a technology I would recommend testing at a computer store before shelling the cash for them. Personally I'm geeky enough to use the tableting feature to take notes, some around here wouldn't be. When I got to test one for work, I used it all the time in meetings to take the notes and then task manage them. Alas I couldn't get them to let me keep it. booooo

I use a Gateway M280 convertible. Very easy to use as a laptop and then flip the screen around to use as a Tablet. It is very heavy (6+ lbs), but I'm always sitting in a classroom anyways. Put in the optional battery and it will go for more than 6 hours with everything on. Highly recommended.

I use the tablet functions in classes which require diagrams, i.e. Biology. It was also handy in Organic. I used Microsoft Onenote, which is free, to search through hundreds of pages of handwritten notes for specific terms. And it actually worked!

If your notes are in powerpoint, for example, do you have to convert them into a OneNote file to be able to annotate them? Also can you type and then use the stylus to draw a diagram if needed?

In powerpoint you just print to onenote and the slides go to onenote where you can annotate. You can switch between typed and handwritten notes and/or drawings at any time. You can also insert screen clippings, hyperlinks, etc. Here is a good resource if you are interested in tablets.

I would definitely go with a convertible for the versatility.
