229 in top half of the class? with National average at around 227, so you must be like rank 51 out of 100 students. Its like you're trying to say you are average in a fancy way.

I'm not going to do the leg work because finding this info on your own will be an enriching process, but I will give you starting points.

Get the latest NRMP look at averages for surgery. Read a bit of the NRMP because it will give other helpful information on getting the residency of your choice. Then go to the Surgery Resident forums and read some threads.
