Hi, everyone! I'm a humanities PhD who's interested in applying to a formal post-bac program for career changers. It's been a really long time since I've had any science or math courses, and I'm wondering if I could hear your thoughts on taking a Chemistry class or a trig/pre-cal course at a local college before I try applying to a competitive post-bac program.
My rationale is that if I do well in the class I can demonstrate an aptitude for success in the sciences and get a letter of recommendation from someone in that field. I had a good undergrad GPA (3.5) and my grad GPA was a 4.0 (not that medical schools will care all that much about that). I'm not sure if my rather old SAT/ACT and GRE scores are all that competitive. I'm also thinking that if I get into a postbac, taking that one class would leave room for an extra elective like microbiology.
Does anyone try to prepare for postbacs like this? Should I just save my money, and invest all my time and energy into volunteering instead? I'm working full time. I want to set up a viable plan, but I'm not sure how I should get started. I'm new here. Thanks for your input. 😳
