Take MCAT 2015?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Verbal is always a wildcard, IMO, more so than the other two sections.

If you are only worried about getting in to any MD school, your first score was perfectly fine given that the rest of your application is okay. Even with a somewhat lower GPA (depends how low, though) you can make it work if you apply early and make sure you spend a lot of time working on your app. Honestly, you shouldn't have retaken a 32 unless you were shooting for top tier.

Definitely do NOT retake again. A 33 is more than enough. If you aren't comfortable with your GPA right now, consider a post-bacc.

You shouldn't have retaken the 32. Retaking the 33 will look even stupider. Don't do it. You will get in somewhere with your 33. Apply broadly and you'll be fine.

Too much of a gamble taking the new MCAT. If you're disappointed with a 33 you were likely shooting for 37+, which is going to be nearly impossible to guarantee with the new format.

Hi all,

I've been lurking on SDN, and now I have a real issue. The first time I took the MCAT last semester, I received a 32 (11/9/12). What I was most surprised about in this exam was that I received an 11 on PS since I thought I got a 12+, but the rest were as expected. I knew that I could improve my verbal with some more time.

So during winter break, I studied a lot more and received my score today of 33 (14/8/11). The last 2 scores really shook me... After all my prep, I went DOWN on verbal? I felt like it was a solid 10 or 11 given some of the new material I used to practice with...

Should I try again for the MCAT 2015? I'm committed to applying this cycle and I have decent ECs and recs. However, because my GPA is a little bit on the low end, I'm not aspiring for Top 20 schools with (3.8/35), but I just want to have the chance of getting into somewhere. I've heard that some schools take only your recent score and my 8 on VR is going to hurt me a lot...

Good lord, take your 33 and run with it. DO NOT retake. The 8 VR is a little low but I don't think it's as hazardous as you think it is.

If @Goro were here he'd smack you through your computer screen for retaking the 32, let alone a 33!
