Do most applicants need to have taken the MCAT before submitting an application to a Post-bacc program? I won't be ready for this august MCAT and I want to take the MCAT next spring, but I'm not sure if that is too late for most programs.
thanks for the help!

Read the program's admission criteria. If they say MCAT is required, then obviously you should have taken it before. If not then obviously you don't have to take it before. There are way to many programs out there with different requirements and deadlines, therefore you should either be more specific, or look up this information yourself.

Depends what you mean by "post-bacc". If you are talking about a program where you take undergrad level courses, then generally no. Some postbac programs (esp the formal programs) are places where you take the prereqs, so obviously you won't have the tools necessary to take the MCAT anyhow. If you are talking about a SMP program (which isn't really a "postbac" program per se, as it is a graduate level program), then yes most will require an MCAT score. Check with the programs. And DO NOT take the MCAT before you are ready, or you will may dig yourself a hole that no postbac program can remedy.

yeah, I'm talking about the SMPs and the record enhancer post-baccs. thanks for your help.
it seems like most of the SMP and record enhancer post baccs require an MCAT score, so i guess it's beneficial to take it in August.

had most of you taken the MCAT before you submitted your applications?

It doesnt matter when you take the MCATS as long as you get in your scores before the deadline to hand in everything.

i got into BU MAMS with a GRE, no MCAT was needed.

I must reiterate what Law2Doc said, take the MCAT when you are ready. Don't take the MCAT just so you can get into an SMP or post-bacc. Although the MCAT isn't too bad, one should aim for taking it once since it is a hassle to do it more than once! You need to ask yourself if you can acheive the best possible score (for you) in August, or would you do better next year.

When I thought about applying to a post-bacc program (University of California programs), I had already taken the MCAT. The program at my school allowed you to waive the MCAT option, while other schools in my school system did not have that option. Ultimately, I went to grad school since our post-bacc program wasn't really designed for me.

I just want to ask about your acceptance to BU MAMS. What were your undergraduate gpa and science gpa. I just want to know how well my chances of getting into the program with a 2.9 gpa.
