It's been about 7 years since I last took Anatomy. Current med students--should I take a refresher anatomy course at a community college before I enter school this Fall? Or should I just enjoy my last months of no studying? I'm just afraid I'll be really behind during my first year since I don't remember anything from 7 years ago. Thanks!

I wouldn't take anything at all over the summer before school starts! Just enjoy the time you'll have for yourself, family, and friends! There'll be plenty of time to study when school starts...it's just a matter of how well you manage your time!

ENJOY your summer!

No.....med school anatomy is different....it won't help

I agree with the above posters . . . don't take any classes this summer. I talked to a student who had NEVER had anatomy, and was fine (they also had the option of a taking a "beginner" course over the summer). Enjoy your time off, and rest up. This fall is going to be hard enough . . . you'll want full motivation and energy! 👍

Thanx, bro...back at you! 5 exams and 2 days left!

Thanks for the input everyone! 🙂

I've NEVER taken anatomy...

Even if I don't take a course at a community college (expensive!), do you suggest I pick up a textbook or study cards or something before I start at NYCOM this fall?

If so, what do you suggest? Netter's Anatomy cards?

Tx.

No. I didn't take anatomy in college either.

Wait until medical school. Why spend your time studying now, when you are going to do it the whole time you are in medical school?

Enjoy your last days of freedom......

Studying and testing is different in medical school than in college, and you don't even know what types of things you will be tested on yet......

Absolutely NOTHING!

Don't even waste your money in med school on those Netter's Anatomy cards...all you'll need in school is your anatomy text and atlas...

I disagree with the above. Most of the people at my school that say "don't take an anatomy course" have had an anatomy course before. The reason they are saying that is because they don't know what it is like for somebody that hasn't ever had an anatomy course. The terminology of anatomy is important to get down early, since it will carry over into many of your classes as an OMS. I recommend you take an anatomy course--you will come in with that much more of an edge on things. All of the above posters will agree that any edge you get in med school is extraordinarily helpful. If it is so helpful, then why would you not want to do it? The only reason I can come up with is that you will get tired? If that is the case, med school isn't for you, because it is a tiring field.

It would be much more beneficial to take a physiology course. You will still get the terminology here, and have much more of an edge.

Take anatomy ONLY if they have a cadaver lab, where you learn nerves and blood vessels. Identifying a frog's heart and lungs will be useless.

Well, I would have to disagree with you too. The majority of my classmates have NEVER had anatomy and almost all of them are doing fine. There are of course a few exceptions but for the most part, it's all about what time and energy YOU put into learning the material during school. It is a huge amount of material but do-able.

I absolutely do NOT think it is necessary. I did extremely well in the class, but to each his/her own. If the OP does decide to take an anatomy class, it should be with a cadaver lab or it is pretty much NOT worth the money and time when he/she could be having fun with important people in his/her life that he/she may not be able to see much during school.
