I'm a D.O. student and I don't feel prepared to take usmle step one, would it be a mistake to hold off and take step two???

I assume you are kidding but on the off chance that you are not....

Step 2 is the clinically oriented portion designed to be taken after clinical rotations in med school (i.e., after third year). Are you in your third or fourth year of DO school?

Did you take the COMLEX?

Also, I may be wrong about this but I don't think you can sign up for Step 2 without having completed step 1.

The Steps can be taken in any order (except Step 3)

If you haven't taken the first part of COMLEX I'd take those around the same time. If you already have, I'd try to get Step 1 out of the way the next time you have a light set of weeks in which you can re-review the basic sciences.

Your decision regarding when to take Step 2 should be based on when you are best prepared to take it, regardless of whether that is before or after Step 1.
