Because of the lack of interview date choices and the time off to complete interviews, I may have to take one or two days off from my current sub-i to interview at a different residency program. Is this a bad idea? Will the requested day off be remembered at a round table discussion about my candidacy as a resident at the current sub-i program?

I seriously doubt it. You've got to interview some time, right? I'd certainly try to keep your missed sub-i days to a minimum if it's in a specialty you want to do, but everyone understands that missing a day or two here and there is a necessary evil.

Make a good impression while you're there working. aPD has said before that program directors/residents/attendings expect MS-4's in subI's to go interview across the country. Just keep them updated.
