I just took my DAT today. I pretty much cried after the exam. 90% of what I studied (and seemed to be the focus of destroyer etc) were not on the exam. Instead, I got a bunch of very weird questions I've never seen before. I think in that regard, I'm quite unlucky. However, I also blame myself for studying only 20 days and underestimating everything especially the RC section...

22 26 19 20 21 20 21 21 ............................👎

Background: applying LATE (like now), Canadian, engineering major, estimate (they haven't calculated my GPA yet) GPA: overall 3.4-3.5; science 3.8-3.9....

I feel horrible. I feel like I just bombed my future.

So if I want to retake, I need to tell the schools in advance that I will be doing that so don't just shut me off yet, right?

I agree, it's tough scoring in the top 10%. I'm sure your fellow pre-dents feel very sorry for you right now.

Seriously dude, what's the problem, you're gonna be fine.

I can't tell if it's sarcastic or not.
Either way, I just want to say that I honestly feel horrible about this, and if you have any empathy, you probably shouldn't make fun of me...🙁

since joining in june of 2010 have you taken the time to look at the predental forums to determine what is and what is not a competitive applicant or do you just enjoy trolling around forums?

I wasn't being sarcastic. Good job! Welcome to the 20+ club mate

ohh Canadian. Does that mean OP must score incredibly high to be competitive? (serious question)

No...I'm not trolling. What did I do? Why are you so mean?
Canadian..yes, I think the bar is higher.
And no, my sGPA is no longer 3.9 because apparently they included all my engineering courses in 'other sciences' instead of 'non-science'.
It's now 3.6.

Edit: Thanks to all the replies...If I'm really trolling, I apologize. I'll not post anymore...

I see. I'm not really sure what that means. But it's ok.
I forgot to mention, I have a good idea of the average stat here. Most people applied 2 months earlier than me. I also browsed all the "DAT done" posts right here under this section and saw mostly 23+ across the board. I only had time to check the posts in the first 2 pages or so because checking all is infeasible...so yea, I did my research.

I'm sad that you're not very friendly, but I'm happy if it's actually true that mine isn't too bad, given my soso GPA and late application.

I see the problem. You do realize that it's a sampling error, right? Check out the DAT user manual to see the true grade distributions.

So when you were given a printout of your scores and it said that you scored ~93% AA that made you think that you did poorly? I am not trying to be mean but by demonizing top tier scores you prevent a large majority of people from participating in the forum because you make them feel that there 18-20 is terrible. I do not know where your applying but I bet that there is a website with the average gpa and sgpa listed and i have a hard time believing that it is below a 3.4-3.5, 3.6. Congratulations on your scores. You did very well and you should be proud of that. Im sure that you spent plenty of time studying and if you spent a small fraction of that time browsing the over 55k threads in the predental forum you would find that your scores are competitive.

Well... its my understanding that some canadian d-schools are very much concerned with gpa's and couldnt care less what ur dat score is so I will assume thats the real reason u thought ur stats werent competitive(i dont think anybody will be able to figure out how u thought that was a bad dat score tho)- but this is The USA and we care about DATs! the gpa is average/competitive in the states and the dat score is above avg for 90% of d-schools...
and ur not that late so relax and take a deep breath...as long as u can appear a little more self-aware than u hav on this forum, u should be set! good luck with interviews

Guys,

She is just concerned about her future as we all are. And probably more so considering she wants to get into a US d-school and is Canadian.

Her GPA is ok, her scores are great! Its evident that she studied and is trying really hard to ensure a bright future for herself. That's stressful!

The things that are going for you are:
*94th percentile on the AA for your DAT
*Your GPA - while not stellar, its still a good GPA.

The things not so good:
*Applying late in this cycle.
*Canadian. <-- not that "being" Canadian is bad, but that you are an international student applying in the US

If by some chance you don't get in, then wait until the next cycle and re-apply when the application is open.

Retaking the test is entirely up to you, but your scores are fine.

I had very similar scores but an 18 in RC, so far I have 6 interviews. I wouldn't retake it if I were you, feel free to ask for all my scores if you want but I think you're doing great!

Okay. Thanks everyone for your input...to be honest sleep really calmed me down and although I have funny swollen eyes I feel a lot better today.

My updated GPA on AADSAS is this:
with +-/without
BCP 3.97 3.86
Science 3.62 3.52
Non-Science 3.58 3.56
Total 3.61 3.53
As you can see, my GPA with +/- is about 0.1 higher than the one without.

Do you guys happen to know which GPA schools consider? (with or without +/-?)
Do you know if they will look at the "BCP" GPA in addition to overal and sGPA? It's the only thing that looks good on my app.

PS. DoI have a chance? The schools I applied to are USC, UCSF, UOP, CONN, UL, BU, TUF, CUL, NYU, Case, PENN, PITT, MQT.

Your BCP is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

Get ready for a plethora of interviews.
