For all those who don't have such a perfect application, don't give up hope. I just found out I got into Miami too. I am an older (much) out-of-state applicant and this is my only allo interview so far. I have been a math and science teacher for the last ten years. I have a decent MCAT (34R) but a GPA cum of 3.2 (I think my BCPM is a whopping 2.8 and includes at least 3 F's in the same course). I did have some post-bacc hours (40) at 3.8. My transcript is littered with W's and community college credits. I have no research experience, no formal or recent shadowing, and although I've been told my LOR's are glowing, they are not from the typical sources. I just wanted to remind those who haven't gotten 15+ interview invites that it only takes one. Good luck to all of you.

That is so great! It sure gives me hope! And boy do I need it, right now! 🙄

NoNews, that's great news! (I just had to say that! 😀 )

WTF? Miami told me they wouldn't even consider my application because my undergraduate GPA was less than a 3.6 (I'm a non trad also. I did not have an MCAT score yet because I took the Aug MCAT but I sent in everything in June). They told me they had strict cut offs for out of state students and didn't even consider me for a secondary. I have 60 hours of post bacc with almost a 4.0. I really don't understand this. 🙁

congratulations to you by the way, I am just bummed because it was my favorite school.

Miami has a policy that if you are an undergrad, you must have a 3.2 in state or 3.6 out of state for consideration for a secondary.

HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER there is a major caveat..........

If you screwed up in younger age, and did a POSTBAC.

POSTBAC GPA MUST = 3.5 or greater.

The above poster has a postbac of 3.8 so he/she meets the criteria for a secondary and for consideration.

P.S. I was told this at FSU Deans Day last weekend.

I did a post bac and have a 3.92 in it. 😕

edit...not like this really matters now since it's too late to do anything about it. but what a bummer!

If you are really really interested in Miami, then I would contact Dr. Hinkley and ask him how come your postbac gpa didn't qualify for a secondary

isn't it too late? i figured the deadline had already passed?

You know, I think sometimes they just give reasons for the rejection (ie low MCAT, low GPA, etc), but it's really not the case. For example, I know some people got pre-secondary rejections from UCSF, and the reason given was specifically that their MCAT scores "were not competitive this year." These people had low to mid-30's. I not only got a secondary, but still haven't been rejected post-secondary (though no interview either). I have a 23 MCAT score. There may be some other reason they're not interested in your app, but can't really say (ie they're looking for more minorities, more diversity, whatever), so they say your GPA was too low. This is just my opinion, but when I hear stories like this, it's hard to believe they're accepting certain people and rejecting others with identical stats. Anyway, good luck with the rest of your apps.

Wow Khenon, that's awesome that you got a secondary from them! (Yeah, I was rejected from them pre-secondary too. I'm starting to feel stung by med-schools!). That would make more sense because it really doesn't make any sense to reject ppl with similar stats otherwise. Who knows. I think this whole process is so completely random that it is impossible to find any rhyme or reason to it!

In embracing this basic truth, you have transcended the need to ever visit the Pre-Allo forum again!
