Hey guys,

Like the title says, I'm planning on taking 2 undergrad biology classes at the same time.

The reason is because I have taken these 2 before, and one i got a C+, the other a D.

I want to take 2 classes during session 1, but it seems the only class times that work out are,

Biology 94 - organisms to ecosystems

Biology 97 - Genetics

Would anyone advise not to do this? Or maybe advise that this wouldnt be a problem?

any sort of input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you~

Shouldn't be a problem, that is unless you've got 12 credits of other classes going at the same time.

If you dont have other hard science classes in addition to them, I think that's OK. You dont wanna have anything less than a B+ in these classes because it wont look good to the adcoms. Ecology and mostly Genetics can be hell of a hard classes...at least at my institution.

I just finished 4 bio classes at the same time (although one was a 1 unit honors class). It should be no problem at all.

just curious, what type of bio classes are they?

And to answer the previous questions, no i will not be taking any other science courses than those 2.

Was thinking about taking an EMT course to become emt certified during night time though.

Ive taken 20 credits at 2 schools at the same time and gotten 5 As. Ive also taken 8 at one instituion and received 2 Fs. It all depends on you and your dedication. College isnt at all hard...its just a game to see if you can sit still.

I took bio 98 and 99 at the same time at UCI during summer session 2 bro, got A's in both. Its easy. How many hours a week is your EMT class? Do you even want to work as an EMT? It doesn't really give you much more of an advantage unless you're working a lot before you apply.. I would just volunteer/shadow/normal things

excellent analysis.

My own input would be that taking those two would be no problem at all. Personally, I just took 16 credit hours of all junior level biology classes at my college and got A's in everything. Sure, it was hard at times but usually only when things congregated onto the same day (like the day I had 3 tests... or the day I had 2 finals back to back after taking 1 final and still having to do another the next day....).

Well I wanted to work as an EMT for some side money, while doing some volunteer/shadow work.

My plan was to get my EMT certificate this summer, while finishing my biology and general chemistry.

Then starting fall, I can concentrate on physics and o-chem, while working part time as an EMT, volunteering and shadowing.

Also, I'll probably be done with my pre-reqs in the spring of 2013, so my plan was to take the MCATS in 2013 and apply for D.O schools for the 2014 year.

The point of no return has been breached. Any suggestions, advice, what you would do differently would be MUCH appreciated.

I have a similar horror story: orgo 1, biochem, microbiology and cell biology. 3.5ed the term but I honestly should have been able to do better. I let my grade slip a little in orgo and cell (got a B+ and B respectively). 15 credits with two kids at home was a little overwhelming but it answered my question as to whether or not I could handle a hard science-intensive curriculum.

General Bio, Nutrition and Botany.

Honestly, you did very well for that schedule. Don't let the e-penis competition on SDN make you think that's an easy 4.0 schedule.

Thank you for the complement. I take everything that I read on here with a grain of salt...the e-penis competition gives me something to laugh about when I'm bored enough to peruse some of the WAMC threads. My favorite are the "Unless you're hired as a custodian, you'll never see the inside of a medical school with that 32 MCAT. Have you thought about DO?" comments.

As for that semester, I just had an A in orgo going into the 3rd exam and blew it (71 or something). The final wasn't bad but doing well on it still put me in the A-/B+ range. No curve either...eek. Now, after taking orgo 2 and scoring lower, I should be thankful!! Lighter semester load too...what gives?!

If you want to show AdComs that you can handle the heavy course load of medical school, you need to do this. They don't use the cliche "drinking from a firehose" for nothing, you know.
