Taking 2 years off between 3rd and 4th year

So, I am in a 1-year MA program, after completing 3 years of my MD. I would like to stay another year where I am and convert the 1 year degree to a 2 year degree. I'm actually more likely to pursue a non-practicing job after medical school. The MA and the MD are part of the same university.

The thing is, I think this would be in the best interest for my career overall. I am certain the school I am at now would let me stay another year.

Which school should I discuss this with first?

Who should I ask?

Do you think the medical school prevent me from doing this? (I would really hate them if they did that)
