So basically my program requires me to work during the summer (co-op) and has very little room for electives. For example gaining my English requirement would be near impossible at my university because of the required courses for my program. I'm curious to know if I do take a course at an online university (another institution) and when applying to medical school if I provide them with the transcript would they count it towards my GPA or would they just count it as a credit achieved?

It's my understanding from reading postings here and also briefly perusing the AMCAS manual, your online work does count. CLEPS are listed but not factored into you your GPA though. AMCAS wants to know about everything you do though even if its something sketchy like a ECE or DANTES exam.

I'm doing an Bach of Biz at UofMich Flint (AACSB Accredited) completely online right now so I have something that I can utilize if this medical stuff doesn't work out. Many of the "classes" consist of live interaction and even tape delayed classroom lectures. My buddy who graduated Wayne State Med school recently stated that during the first two years of his classroom work was actually distance learning. I feel that you will get more consideration today with your online coursework compared to five or more years ago.
