I want to go to an Ireland university as a Visiting student, but how would this factor into AMCAS gpa? There grading systems are very different from the US's. It is something like >66% is high honors and so on... Would this even transfer onto AMCAS?

Also, can anyone recommend any big time universities (preferably in a large city, and in a English speaking country(not just Ireland)) that do not have strict admission requirements? When I say strict admission requirments I mean things like only allowing seniors, and excepting only students from top US schools.

Make sure that it is a U.S. accredited school so that you can get a transcript similar to U.S. transcripts when you've finished with the program. My school requires that study abroad programs provide U.S. accredited transcripts so that they can count the credits. Also, while they count the credits, they may not average the grades into your U.S. g.p.a. AMCAS averaged my study abroad grades into my g.p.a, since I studied abroad with NYU's study abroad program. You should check with your college registrar to see what the requirements are and how they will treat your study abroad grades. I hope that you get to study abroad. It was definitely one of the best experiences that I have ever had!!!! Good luck!!!

Almost forgot. NYU has a study abroad program in London.

NYU has a study abroad in dublin too
irish boys are the finest *sigh* i spent last winter in cork/waterford/dublin visitin the x

Great decision to go abroad. I loved my time there (in England). I was at the University of Leeds and it was the best time ever. It's a fantastic city with a great night life. The city is not huge, but it's definitely big enough that you won't ever get bored. Also, taking anatomy classes in human cadaver labs was pretty awesome too. As far as grading went, they used a system where anything about 65% was outstanding (probably similar to what you're talking about in Ireland). And when I back to school here, they just had a conversion sheet that made all my grades comparable to US grades. Unfortunately these factored into my AMCAS gpa, but hopefully med schools understand that you're abroad to "take in the culture". I also recommend the University of Manchester (not as a good of a city as Leeds) and also Trinity College in Dublin (AWESOME city). Good luck.

Another good univeristy is the University of Queensland, St. Lucia in Australia. They grade 1-7 with a 6-7 transferring on the AMCAS as an A, a 5 as B...etc. Good times, good people, warm weather, beautiful oceans...I strongly recommend a semester in Aussie-land!

I studied in Denmark and AMCAS said it was not neccesary to include my grades. All of my grades were considered as passed classes. I think that most study abroad credits need not be accounted for, unless of course your university somehow gives them a grade. Overall, I am not certain of the policy, perhaps you can call the AMCAS people and see what they say.

What is funny though, is that credit I recieved while I was in high school was included on my AMCAS application. I took this architechure class and got a C+, it was worth 6-credits. Needless to say, I was a little annoyed that I was penalized for taking classes before I was even in college.
