Long story short, I've taken 4/11 Calc I quizzes and have yet to break 80% on any of them - luckily, we get three drops. I'm really starting to get concerned though.

All in all, I'm just frustrated because the material isn't difficult but the class is structured very awkwardly. We learn a ton of new material on Monday night and we're quizzed on it all on Wednesday night. It makes absolutely no sense to me why we're not quizzed on Monday. Mix this all with an 85 y/o prof who can't teach well and it's been a recipe for disaster for me. I hardly have any time to translate the math talk in the book into english and work problems enough to nail the concepts.

Should I take a W in this course? I'm crushing Orgo, genetics, all my other classes. I really just feel embarrased and defeated right now, I didn't think I'd ever have this problem. But I'm seriously concerned about this class and I regret taking it. How bad would a W look?

From my understanding, a single W won't kill you.
I have a W in organic chem and I'm actually not that concerned and I haven't even applied yet.
I have nobody to blame for not getting through that course but myself.

Seriously though, don't blame your teacher for that fact you're not doing well. That won't get you very far.

In this situation, it truly is a bad combination of the professor not presenting the material well and having a very small window of time to smash in a chapter of math. Having a prof that doesn't teach well is common, but to have a very small amount of time to learn the material from the book does change things.

1 W won't hurt you that much and for a class like Calc 1 but you should be ready to explain it if necessary.

And nice avatar I love that movie!

I have 3 Ws on my transcript (plus a couple things worse than that) from my first two years of city college and I am doing well so far this season. If you learn from your mistakes and show that you have, you'll be fine. I had a similar situation with my first calc class and found Kahn academy to be a lifesaver, just FYI

having a W or two is fine. You can find a lot of people with one or two Ws who got into med school (and even some with 3+ Ws) . You may or may not get asked about it during interviews
