I'm still waiting to see if I will get in this year, but if I do, would it be at all possible to defer matriculation for a year and teach English abroad for a year or does the reason have to be research related?
I don't want to speculate pre-acceptance, but this would be the only way I could go on the program and the program application is due before the cycle is over, but if I get into the program and can't put off medschool for a year, I dont have to go on the program. Also, I don't think that I could do the program as a reapplicant, since that would take me out of the country during the interview season.

Each med school has its own policy about deferral. Some don't allow it. Some require a good reason. And some don't care and let anyone do it.
