What should I do in my year off. I am applying way too late in the cycle, I think it would be wisest to take a year off so what do you guys think?

I would apply....if you don't get in you can work for a year, make some money, and reapply next year (with better stats, experience, application, etc.). And if you get in you can pay alot of money (But be a future Doctor! 🙂 !)

If you do apply, you may get in. If you dont apply you will definitely not get in.

I will have a semster off before I matriculate. I am going to try and get some job, best paying as I can, to make some money before I have to start school. I am also thinking about traveling to Europe for a month, see some family and all. I have several friends who are in medical school now, and they tell me to enjoy the time off I will have.

Just take the year off, it's not that bad. I graduated this past year and aim to matriculate fall 2011. Working in the radiology department full time at a hospital getting clinical experience and learning the ins and outs from the groud up- it ain't bad. Gives me some extra time to rev up for the MCATS as well, and I'm positive no interviewers look down on those with time in between.

When I start school in Aug. 2010, it will be 2.5 years since getting my undergrad degree for me. The time off has been great! I got married, lived in NYC while my husband was in school there, travelled, took photography classes, and saved up money. Now that I've been accpeted, I can't wait to get started, but I guess that comes with the acceptance for everyone.

I will of had a year and a half off between undergraduate and med school. I would have went crazy without the time off. I moved down to Florida and lived it up in the warm weather (compared to Michigan). Worked in a hospital, a nursing home, and got a bunch of things accomplished that I wanted to for a long time. Time off b/w should almost be a requirement.

just whatever you do, do not do a post bacc program unless you really need to pull your grades up desperately. Once you get into medical school, you will feel like doing absolutely nothing till the start of medical school. So, if you are in a post bacc program, it is going to be even harder to keep focus (just speaking from experience).
