Hey all! My roommate told me about this website when I was discussing my med school plans with him.

A little background -- senior in engineering with MEH 😱 GPA.

Since I am graduating this year, I'll have to go back to school to take Organic Chem I, II, and Biology II. I had transferred universities after my freshman year because my original school's engineering department was lacking.

According to the AMCAS GPA Calculator excel sheet found on this website, my current stats are:

AMCAS Running overall GPA = 3.413
Running BCPM GPA = 3.347
~190 hours of volunteering at hospital
~50 hours of shadowing

The GPA won't really move too much from those scores unless I fail my classes (not likely 😕)

Current employer has offered me full-time upon graduation. The soonest I'd be able to take classes would be summer session.

Here is the plan---
  1. Graduate and accept full-time offer
  2. Take summer courses at my university + increase volunteering / shadowing time
  3. Fall Semester 2013 - Take Biology II and Organic Chem I
  4. Spring Semester 2014 - Take Organic Chem I + filler classes
  5. Study hardcore for MCATS in summer of 2014
  6. Take MCATS in August
  7. Get results and apply!

Hypothetically speaking, the highest possible GPAs:
uGPA: 3.574
sGPA: 3.563

MCATS = ?? No idea could be anywhere from 25-35?

I am not trying to rush anything. I've read about doing a masters program, but think this plan might be better. How does this plan look, and what would my chances be with this "resume" ?

PS: I am a VA resident, interested in VA schools primarily, but will apply to a lot others!

Noooooooooo... according to the Asian chart, if I get a 30-32 only have a 48% chance to get in, 33-38 is about mid 60%. OK I guess my only hope is to try and land the 39-45 group :scared::scared:

What about doing the Graduate Certificate Program at VCU? It says that if I obtain a 3.5 in their program, I have a chance to interview at their medical school. That'll put me a year behind and cost at least $30,000.

An alternative plan would be --

  1. Graduate and accept full-time offer
  2. Summer 2013 Session 1 - Take Bio 2
  3. Summer 2013 Session 2 - Take Organic Chem I
  4. Summer 2013 Session 3- Take Organic Chem II
  5. Fall 2013 - VCU Graduate Certificate Program
  6. Spring 2014 - VCU Graduate Certificate Program
  7. ?????
  8. Profit

The second plan has less GPA padding, but costs $30,000 more. Would it even be feasible to do?
