I'm currently a sophomore right now, and I just got back my grade in Ochem II: B. I've heard horror stories of pre-meds who don't get into medical school because of B in that class. It sucks because I had what it took to get that A, but there was a lot of family trauma this semester.

Anyway, my stats so far are decent. Overall GPA: 3.94 and BCPM: 3.91. I'm shooting for a top state school in California (SF, SD, LA), so I'm wondering if it's advisable to take advanced ochem and ace it to prove that I can do ochem. Or is it going to be a waste of time? The advanced ochem class will be a lot smaller than the regular class, so I can get more access to the professor, and I know that I can do well. What do you guys think? Thanks!

Don't do that. You're the pre-med mothers warn their geeky kids not to turn into.

Seriously, you're doing great, don't worry about one mediocre score.

don't do it. your stats are above average.

what if you took it and got another B or even lower.

You would think a person that gets a 3.9 GPA would have some common sense.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll work on bettering my application in other ways than working on one class.

I'd take advanced orgo as well as inorganic chemistry to make up for a score like that.

I hear ya. My friend didn't get into John Hopkin's because of an A- in physical chem. Oh well, slackers never prosper. I'd recommend re-taking it, take advanced ochem, and send an e-mail to all the medical schools you're interested in and apologize in advance.

I think I'm going to use this as my signature.
