I've already taken BIO 101 earlier in my undergraduate career and managed to get an A. Would taking BIO 102 and the labs for 121 and 122 (the Bio Major's Bio courses) be sufficient for medschool requirements? Or should I just take Bio 121 and 122 and the labs?

Here is a comparison of Bio 101 and 102 to 121 and 122:

General Biology I (Bio 101) (Already taken this course)
3 units
An introductory human biology course emphasizing energy flow and the function of cells and molecules, basic genetics, and selected aspects of human physiology.

General Biology II (Bio 102)
3 units
Continuation of introductory biology with emphasis on the reproduction and genetics of organisms, their evolution, behavior, and interactions within ecosystems.

BIO 121

Biology Of Organisms I
First course for biology majors, an introduction to structure, function, and behavioral adaptations in the world of living organisms. The first semester emphasizes cell origin, structure and chemistry, basic cellular physiology, and genetics. The second semester covers the diversity and evolutionary relationships of living organisms, culminating in an in-depth study of a selected ecosystem. Pre-professional aspects are emphasized during both semesters for the biology major student. Field experiences, writing, and problem-solving are integrated into the course work.

BIO 122

Continuation of BIO 121. The second semester covers the diversity and evolutionary relationships of living organisms, culminating in an in-depth study of a selected ecosystem. Pre-professional aspects are emphasized during both semesters for the biology major student. Field experiences, writing, and problem-solving are integrated into the course work.

I was thinking about doing this because I took Bio 101 at first also and got an A in it, but I decided to take the major's level bios and got As in both of them anyway. Unless you think the major's level at your school is crazy hard, take it. Also, check with the med schools to find out if they take the general.

The only problem is that I don't have time to take both Bio courses because I already am going to have difficulty graduating next year (I'm behind in credits). So I'm really hoping I can just take Bio 102 and the labs and then just do well on the MCAT Bio section. Are medschools generally OK with this? After all, I am taking a year of biology and labs.

may work but from what I understand the MCAT is detailed on genetics, some cell bio, ecology and evolution, and physiology. i would think that the non major classes wouldn't be as in depth.

also some colleges say a year of bio while others say 8 credits. if it is only worth 3 credits that won't be enough.

Well it would total 8 credits if the two labs are included (each one credit).

i would contact the schools you're most interested in and check with them. Taking non-major bio certainly is not going to help you, but you'd have to find out from them exactly how much it might hurt you and if it's worth doing extra schooling for that reason.
