Hi all!

I attend a highly-ranked four year liberal arts college. This past year (freshman) I mainly took general education requirements and some math classes for pre med, but wanted to let myself settle in before I buried myself in labs/pre med coursework (I also figured if I still really wanted to pursue pre med after a whole year of gen-ed then I was really devoted haha). However, after attending lots of research lectures, I think that I want to major in biochem. However, in order to graduate on time and be able to fulfill pre-med reqs before I take the mcat my junior spring, I would have to take Chem 1 at my college this summer because of the special sequence of biochem courses. Is taking this summer course in advisable even though it is at my own college?

In comparison, if I majored in philosophy (or even just general chemistry), fulfilled my pre med requirements by doubling up on some sciences the next two years, I would be fine not taking chemistry this summer, but I would be a philosophy/chem major, not a biochem major... Just wondering what your thoughts were.

Also, does anyone have experience majoring in philosophy or (even weirder) medieval studies and pursuing pre-med? At my school basically all the pre med are bio/chem/biochem/neuroscience...
