Hey, I'm applying for med schools right now for entrance in fall 2010. I still have to finish up my math requirement for med schools senior year and would be taking statistics in the spring of 2010. I am wondering if taking this class Pass/Fail would affect my application negatively in any way. I know that usually schools want their BCPM classes to be taken for a grade. However, the way I'm looking at it, most medical schools would have already made their decisions on my application before they even got the grade for statistic, so finding a pass grade in May wouldn't hurt me get into the school since the decisions would have already been made. Also, most of the schools I am applying to don't require statistics, and its not required for me to graduate. The only way I'm guessing it might matter is if they can see in early spring of 2010 that I am taking it pass/fail and have that harm my application. Thanks.

what exactly is the math requirement for the med schools you are applying for (is it statistics or calculus)? if it is a med school requirement then you should probably take it for a grade.

By your same logic though, that you'll likely receive an admission decision before you finish the course, it wouldn't matter if you didn't ace the course -- unless you got an F or something it shouldn't be a problem for you to matriculate. However, if the school can see that you're taking it pass-fail, it may or may not hurt you. Just something to think about.

To c7places: the requirement for most schools I'm applying to is just calculus, which i will be taking for a grade. Only a one or two schools im applying to require statistics which I would be taking in the spring.
