Hey guys, I have a question concerning multiple DAT attempts. What if one got 18/18/18 first time and got like 19/19/19 the second time. Do dental schools view this as a plus because of improvement or do they expect more for a second time. Will schools only look at the higher ones? If one gets 18's the first time, what do you think they need to get the second time to be considered? I guess my question is, if you are going to take the DAT multiple times, do dental schools expect large increases or if it is just 19-20, around average, you are good to go. Thanks for your help!

It always seemed to me that the most recent scores are what are looked at most heavily.

^ Me too.

I think your scores are good. Worry about other things like global warming.

I'm in the same boat. I've been wondering whether or not to retake the DAT and how much it could increase if I used different study methods.

i think going from 18/18/18 to 19/19/19 is a relatively large increase. i dont think the dental schools care about how much you increase your scores? at least your scores didnt decrease. i heard statistically people who take it a second time usually do worst.

Take them again if you have the money and feel you will do better.

If not, I agree with the previous poster... Worry about global warming and the energy crisis. Don't do anything about it, just worry! 😉

During my Case interview, my interviewer had a sheet of paper with both my DAT scores on it. She then circled the higher of the two scores from each test. So I guess, even though you officially give your most recent score, some people won't ignore that you did better on a section the first/earlier time(s).

What I would recommend that you do if you have extra money to spend, is take Kaplan practice tests and sign up for their DAT/MCAT seminars. Classes are very expensive and they are very beneficial and will improve your score the only problem is that they cost about $1500.

I believe that any graduate school will always look at your highest or your last tests that you have taken at least that is what many of my Med & Dent grad. friends say. Do not take it more than 3x and if you are not doing that well take some time off study, study, and study some more and do very well. If your GPA is okay, but your tests are very high and volunteering is good then you shouldnt have many problems at all.
