Hi,
I will get my PhD conferred at the end of August, but would love to be able to take the EPPP in late July, since I have a lot of time during my summer to study (internship at a college counseling center). Does anyone know of states where this would be possible? In researching online it seems that it might be possible in Michigan. . .
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it actually isn't possible in Michigan unless the rules have changed recently. I had a friend who went to school in Minnesota and their program had everyone take it after comps while the info was still fresh. That was like 5 yrs ago. I'd call state boards directly, as almost all the sites are vague and confusing.

Good idea, though.

erg 923--I was just looking at the board website in Kentucky, and as usual they are somewhat unclear. Do you mean getting licensed as a psychology associate? Does one take the EPPP for that?

I believe the psych associate situation in TX allows you to take the exam pre-doctorally there. If you pass it at the doctoral level, I'm pretty sure the score then transfers over as soon as you earn your degree.

Yea, but you wouldn't have to take it again so long as your score was at the passing level for doctoral level.

They may not allow it anymore, but at one point both GA and VT allowed people to sit for the exam predoctorally, as well.

I strongly considered doing the EPPP before doctoral conferral but decided against it when I realized a few states, including the state I now live in (Mississippi), do not count EPPP scores done before your PhD is conferred. Thus, unless you know what state you will be in for the rest of your career, I would probably hold off for a few months.

I will be doing my internship in Kentucky I have been thinking taking the Taylor Study Method course and taking the EPPP. I just to get it done while the information is still reasonably fresh.

One caveat to this could be that while the state in which you ultimately practice might not accept pre-EPPP scores for their licensure process, they might allow you to transfer licensure from a state that does. I'd actually be pretty surprised if a state like MS, for example, didn't allow you to transfer your license, but instead required that you re-take the EPPP (assuming you'd passed it and been licensed in another state). Anything is possible, though, so it's definitely best to double-check with state boards before potentially wasting lots of time and $600 only to have to sit for the exam again.
