For those of you who might be familiar with the process, how do med school admin look at applicants who took 3 courses instead of the usual 4 classes? I'm considering to take 3 courses to save time for other stuff such as shadowing, volunteering, etc. But how bad would it look? Thank you.

Adcoms will consider the total load you carry, not just the academic load. Look busy and you'll be fine.

At the end of the day, you have had to have averaged 16 credits a semester to graduate, so as long as you graduate in 4 years, I don't know why any one would make a big deal about it. If you brought in credits from outside like such as AP or community college credits, then that's just benefit for you.

Just make sure that you are actually doing stuff and mention it in your application
