I"m a non-traditional applicant, diasdvantaged status with single mom and immigrated from another country when I was 10. I also got sick and diagnosed with Graves and my grades suffered at UCLA before diagnosis but I did a post bacc and got 4.0 bringing my overall up to 3.0 to pass the screen and 3.14 for science. I've done ton of volunterring at hospital, homeless shelter volunteering, hospital, currently working at orthopedic surgeon's office. I speak 4 languages. I'm hoping holistic med schools will look favorably upon me fingers, crossed. What are your thoughts please? Do you think i would need ridiculously high MCAT to be considered?

Yes.

Also unless you are applying to DO schools, I feel like 8/31 MCAT is too late for MD schools considering your low GPA.

Even with a very high MCAT your chances are very slim at MD schools. If you are talking DO schools it might be different but I wouldn't say okay in either case! Is this your first MCAT? Why are you taking it so late? Do you have to apply this cycle?

I believe it is risky to apply without knowing your score first, for example, if you get a 498, most school will not look at your app. Is there a rush to apply this season? It may be better to see your score first and realize if you need to retake MCAT. Applying with a low score is a humongous gamble.

Your chances this year will be slim for MD schools. It will take ~1 month for your score to come back, so in essence you won't be complete until October at the earliest (assuming your primary application has been verified by then). Your story is compelling, but this combination of a late application and a GPA below the 10th percentile of almost all schools is not a recipe for success. If you do end up applying this year, it should be done with the expectation that you will most likely need to reapply next year.

You'll be fully licensed in your late-30s regardless of whether you apply this year vs the next. I was a non-trad applicant as well, and one year is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Additionally, depending on how many schools you apply to and your score, you may be flushing a few grand down the toilet. This process is super expensive and a great personal statement is only looked at after the score (most of the time). If you are dead set on applying, applying to 30+ schools will not increase your chances of getting in. Just pick a few that are close to your score. Many applicants have to apply more than 1 time to get in. This is a huge "weeding out" process to prove how dedicated you are to becoming a doctor.

Do you think starting med school at 31 is late?

Post your MCAT score here when available.

I cancelled my 08/31 MCAT and now since my primaries were already verified I don't have the option to withdraw. What am I supposed to do now?

Honestly probably not. You won’t get your score back until October. And won’t be complete until mid October. And if you’re applying to Tulane forget about it. Interviews to that school will be gone by then.

Do you have a MCAT score? How many schools did you send primaries to?? Don’t do any secondaries, obviously.

Send an email to all of the schools you sent a primary to saying you have decided to withdraw your current application and thank them for their consideration. AMCAS is really out of it now. You will be considered a reapp at any school you sent a primary to. But you made to right choice I think.

No no mcat score. It doesn't make sense for me to be a reapplicant without an MCAT score

I was told you can't be considered a reapplicant unless they give you a decision which makes sense. Because you'd need to be rejected to be a reapplicant.

This isn’t true.

Im not going to select yes next year when asking if I've appliednbefore
If you applied to a school via AMCAS you are a re-applicant to that school without regard to the outcome of that application (didn't complete secondary, didn't submit it on time...).
Please let us know how that works out for you. 🙂

Reapplicant = someone who has previously applied.
If you have sent in a verified primary application, then you have already applied. That would make you a reapplicant for subsequent cycles. What you think about this is irrelevant. What matters is how schools define these terms.

Lying or feigning ignorance is never a good strategy. It doesn't work in clinical practice, and certainly won't in an application either.

You were told wrong. Why did you apply without some guidance?

It’s never a good idea to falsify information on a med school application.

I know you are upset by this turn of events. Hopefully once you cool down and think about things you will do the right thing.

It's not forging or reining anything when schools never looked at me without an mcat score. It's not like I was rejected or looked at and I'm trying to pretend I wasn't. I will explain all of this tomorrow when I call the schools. Thank you.

It’s not your rule or the school rules. It is AMCAS rules. It won’t be held against you as long as you don’t lie on your application. And you are only a reapp at the schools you submitted primaries to this cycle or any previous cycles. Thats why I asked how many schools you sent primaries to this cycle .

Let us know how this justification in trying to contravene what AMCAS/AAMC states extremely clearly works out for you.

Hint: I don't think it'll work very well. You made a mistake by applying without an MCAT score and scheduling your MCAT so late. Own up to it and move on.

Let's hope OP didn't make the mistake of adding like 30 schools to her primary for verification purposes.
That is why especially for people who are taking the MCAT between May - July and won't know the score until after AMCAS submission, it is strongly suggested that they only add ONE school to AMCAS and so by the time it is verified, you can apply strategically based on your score.
OP trying to skirt the rules thru loopholes is no bueno.

Some of my all time best students have been in their 30s and 40s. I graduated one at 50 and she's now an attending in Southern Cali.

I guarantee you that if you lie on your application, you might as well take your computer and set it on fire, because that's what will happen to your medical career.

As a reinventor, your should have a 513+ MCAT for MD, 510+ for your state schools, and 505+ for DO. As a reinventor, you need DO schools on your list. The DO cycle is longer as well, so you're fine until T-giving to get your app in.

But for MD, this cycle is over for you, except maybe at your state school
