Taking my DAT November 1st!@#!@#!

Hi

So I bombed my DAT in July simply because I was a bum all summer and did not study enough......


Now I have to wait until November 1st to take it again.. My uncle has vouched to support me financially 100 percent, so that I am sure I will have stellar scores when I take the DAT in November.

Should I even bother applying to dental schools still for the 2010 cycle? Especially schools that have deadlines January 1st or later.....

Lastly, is there anyway to petition ADEA to be allowed to take the DAT before the 3 month wait period?

and as a matter of fact... i was doing exactly what you said... I have been working on submitting my application.... Its almost done, and will probably submit it next week....

THEN IT WILL BE TIME TO KILL THE DAT...

Im using KAPLAN online material (~$1200), Destroyer (should I get the newest edition or just stick to the older one?), Kaplan Blue book, Achiever (older edition software), and CrackDatPat...

Does anyone care to suggest more resources.. or maybe less..lol?

Older version is fine. The newer one just has a better Math Destroyer...

Topscore Pro, DAT Acheiver, and Cliffs Bio should be enough. Hey if you want to buy anything check my thread out, I got great scores with these materials

Also, just to let you know, the online class isnt really that useful except they have GREAT practice tests. The rest of the information is straight out of kaplan BB which you can buy separately. It is not worth the $1200. Go to my link I posted above, Im selling KaplanBB and tests for cheap since I took the class. That is all you really get from Kaplan online class.

Only useful thing from online kaplan is their tests. You get 5 tests for each subject with great explanations. The rest is garbage and not worth the money.

Yes their subject tests are great, but whats wrong with the rest of the stuff? Anyone? Is it too easy or something?

The rest of the Kaplan stuff is just content review and all they do is have content review STRAIGHT OUT OF THE KAPLAN white book, word for word. The videos include a person reading word for word from that book. Thats it, they dont have anything new that is diff than the book. If you get the Kaplan white book separately from the class, then no reason to spend $1200 bc it will be a waste. I have the white book bc I took the class, which was a waste of bunch of money. The tests are great though.

that does not really add up. to me it sounds like you will just bum around till November. you knew you had the dat coming up and did not prepare for it? so just cause you uncle is supporting you financially it has given you the motivation to really buckle down, study really hard and kill the dat?

Also, why would the ADEA let you petition to take the dat before the 3 month waiting period just because you were a 'bum' all summer and did not study enough? that petition is for people who have legitimate reasons, such as faulty computer during the test, getting sick during test.... not for lazyness

also, if you bombed the test, as you put it, dont you need the 3 months to really study and prepare properly for it?

anyway, Im not trying to be rude and im suprised im the first person to bring this up. good luck and I hope you really do amazing when you retake the test. and as others said, get your app in asap

I have actually been working 3 jobs (about 70 hours a week), taking care of my divorced disabled mother, and being there for my two younger siblings.... I need to work to support them since my dad left is a couple years back.... Plus I am in a Masters program, and I have been working on my Thesis.

Therefore, the very LITTLE time I had left... I was being a bum...... Now that I do not have to to work as much to put FOOD on the table... I will have the energy and piece of mind needed to focus on my DATs...

Nonetheless, thanks for bringing up a good point... I will turn in my APP ASAP.. But it seems like a lot of you are hinting at the fact that I probably will not get in for the 2010 cycle since my DATs will be extremely late?

Keep in mind that if you take it in November, schools will not be receiving your scores until December, after they've sent out a bunch of acceptances. Your chances will be very slim for this cycle.

I took my first DATs in sept, wasn't happy with the score, and retook them end of Dec. I also didn't send my application in completely until early Oct. My GPA and scores weren't stellar, but I had a solid extra curricular and dental experience app. I applied to 7 places, received 3 interviews, and am currently enrolled in dental school for fall 2009. Now I'm sure this is not the norm, so don't take this as "I definitely will get in dental school". I'm just letting you know it's possible. Hope that helps. Study a lot, and be prepared to freak out a bit when you realize a lot of seats are already taken by the time you'll be offered an interview. Good Luck!

If you do Not have a good GPA or you are not minority, then your chance is slim.
