I took my Naplex last September and due to some health issues I couldn't take my CPJE. You won't blv if I tell you I passed naplex on Sept 2012 using the rxprep 2011 edition!!! It had a lot of info outdated but what helped me was that I LOVE to read so I guess I updated myself lol
When I bought the rxprep 2013 for my CPJE, I was like WHOAAA! lol The book is HUGE but it is EXCELLENT!
Here is something I wrote to someone recently who asked for advice:
I studied from Rxprep and prontopass... I did 120 calculations questions on this forum & from prontopass (GOLD!!! EXCELLENTTT source!!!) You must MASTER calculations! It is a must answer 100% correct questions.. Half of my exam was calculations...
Study top 200 meds (prontopass) like your name with max doses & doses & forms... everything!
Must know monitoring, black box warnings AND severe/absolute contraindications! (Ex: Zyprexa CI in diabetics, tramadol CI in seizure risk pts.. etc)
And how long do u give a medicine before considering alternative therapy (ex: antidepressants 4-6wks... etc). Drug-drug & drug-food interactions (ex: MAOI and tyramine, digoxin/warfarin and foods rich in K+, Lithium and Na/caffeine... etc)
Guidelines is a MUST because you can be asked on which is better? To increase dose or add on another drug to the therapy? If regimen is suitable for disease condition.
When to adjust drugs (ex: metoclopromide decrease 50% dose with low CrCl, Li Contraind in renal disease... etc)
Counseling on how to use inhalers, how to inject heparin or insulin or..., where to apply patches... What are STAT medications for severe constipation, bipolar, status epilepticus.
Drug dosage forms (ex: schizophrenia medications come in ODT to prevent cheeking, some Crohn's disease & IBD meds as suppositories for less S.E.... etc.
Drugs that contain Sulfur (bactrim, sulfonylureas, thiazide & loop diuretics..etc) or peanut/fish/soy/egg to avoid in allergies.
I did two pre-naplex tests... the first one was a week before the exam I got 92 because I was SOOOO stressed and the second one I did (after I stressed on weak chapters in one wk of hardcore studying) 3 days before the exam and got 109... So you have to be really cool to be able to perform..
I bought the Rxprep Qbank which is a MUST buy. It's excellent to retain info. You must practice a lot a lot of questions... Rxprep book is an EXCELLENT source. It can also be your only source (apart from calculations as I said above) Good luck
