Taking NAPLEX end of aprilish

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Word of advice... Don't even look for Apha! And if you have it, don't bother using it. I had Apha and it is much too detailed. It doesn't focus on MUST know points and you end up with a LOT of info, not knowing which is an ABSOLUTELY must know.

I got 110 on my Naplex test. I used Rxprep, rxprep qbank, Prontopass Calculations cards (GOLDDDDD) , 120 SDN calculations floating around these forums. I memorized herbals, lab values and some summaries from prontopass (such as top 200).

Good luck...

Hey Moora is absolutely right don't even bother to try apha its useless. Just stick with Rx prep!! And good luck, when r u taking naplex?? And Moora congratulation 🙂 when did u take naplex ? I'm taking naplex in April can u help me out what to focus?? And math wise I'm using rxprep math m 120 do U think will be enough??thanks a lot ! Will be very very appericatate if u reply me .

I took my Naplex last September and due to some health issues I couldn't take my CPJE. You won't blv if I tell you I passed naplex on Sept 2012 using the rxprep 2011 edition!!! It had a lot of info outdated but what helped me was that I LOVE to read so I guess I updated myself lol
When I bought the rxprep 2013 for my CPJE, I was like WHOAAA! lol The book is HUGE but it is EXCELLENT!
Here is something I wrote to someone recently who asked for advice:

I studied from Rxprep and prontopass... I did 120 calculations questions on this forum & from prontopass (GOLD!!! EXCELLENTTT source!!!) You must MASTER calculations! It is a must answer 100% correct questions.. Half of my exam was calculations...

Study top 200 meds (prontopass) like your name with max doses & doses & forms... everything!
Must know monitoring, black box warnings AND severe/absolute contraindications! (Ex: Zyprexa CI in diabetics, tramadol CI in seizure risk pts.. etc)
And how long do u give a medicine before considering alternative therapy (ex: antidepressants 4-6wks... etc). Drug-drug & drug-food interactions (ex: MAOI and tyramine, digoxin/warfarin and foods rich in K+, Lithium and Na/caffeine... etc)
Guidelines is a MUST because you can be asked on which is better? To increase dose or add on another drug to the therapy? If regimen is suitable for disease condition.
When to adjust drugs (ex: metoclopromide decrease 50% dose with low CrCl, Li Contraind in renal disease... etc)
Counseling on how to use inhalers, how to inject heparin or insulin or..., where to apply patches... What are STAT medications for severe constipation, bipolar, status epilepticus.
Drug dosage forms (ex: schizophrenia medications come in ODT to prevent cheeking, some Crohn's disease & IBD meds as suppositories for less S.E.... etc.
Drugs that contain Sulfur (bactrim, sulfonylureas, thiazide & loop diuretics..etc) or peanut/fish/soy/egg to avoid in allergies.

I did two pre-naplex tests... the first one was a week before the exam I got 92 because I was SOOOO stressed and the second one I did (after I stressed on weak chapters in one wk of hardcore studying) 3 days before the exam and got 109... So you have to be really cool to be able to perform..

I bought the Rxprep Qbank which is a MUST buy. It's excellent to retain info. You must practice a lot a lot of questions... Rxprep book is an EXCELLENT source. It can also be your only source (apart from calculations as I said above) Good luck

Yes Moora is right....APHA is just waste of time and money.....RX prep is the best source...I used RX Prep,Rx prep question bank,120 Questions,Ansel book for calculations,300 drug names....and I cleared NAPLEX very easily last October
Just a day before NAPLEX I take pre naplex but I believe that was not of any use...but some people find it useful so it is ur call whether to take it or not....
Good Luck

Thanks Moora a billion for ur advice really appreciated🙂 one more quick question? About math u mention abt pronto pass cards , I'm doing from Rx prep 2013 section do u think I should buy pronto pass math cards?? and regarding dosing (MDD) n all should I memorize for all top because I feel dosing is hard to feed in the brain except unusual ones.. I am doing each topic then when I see top 200 I try to focus on those drugs more.. Hopefully I'm not bothering you a lot just too nervous . Thanks once again 🙂

That was an iPhone app named 200 drugs but the number of drugs in that app was actually 300... It's a free app

@ shahis I try to find on iPhone the only free drug app is called sigler drug lite . That's the one ur talking abt??

Absolutely not Pharm987... I totally understand your fears.

As I said, I studied from the 2011 edition and maths was useless in the rxprep then. I know they expanded the section in the 2013 edition, but I personally wouldn't risk it. Prontopass is GOLD. I knew that I was doing well on maths because questions got more and more difficult, but I was able to identify the tricks in those questions. I did prontopass cards 2 times (all through) and then 2 more times (questions I had marked as very important and others I solved wrong repeatedly). I also did the 120 SDN twice. The SDN questions are a MUST do because I did get one which was similar on my PREnaplex. And that question was not on prontopass nor rxprep.

About dosing, I got at least 2 questions, if not more, on dosing on my exam. You have to know especially ones that have to be decreased with renal insufficiency or because they have narrow therapeutic index. As in metformin (lactic acidosis), metoclopramide( EPS), antidepressants (due to QT) in renal insuff. There are many meds that you have to know because patients may not be compliant due to their inconvenient dosing such as in Ditropan. Which ones with food and so on.

I know it is overwhelming and that's why I think it is absolutely important to buy the rxprep qbank because all your hard work will go to waste if you don't actually practice it in question form. I did the question bank 4 times and I took my exam at the end of 2012 with a 2011 book ( I couldn't afford a new one with all those awful hospital bills).
If I did it, then you can and anybody can... Good luck 🙂

Ur great Moora🙂 I think I will order prontopass Math card today it's 139$ rt with 250 question with 25 section right?? And I really appericatate ur time n advice . I still have good 20 days n studying hard these days hopefully will pay off . I will definitely let u know how my exam goes ... Thanks a lot

Sorry keep bothering you should I buy quick cards too 265$ kinda too much money . Thinking to just buy 139 $ math one ?? Thanks a lot Moora

No worries 🙂
The maths cards are enough. Don't hastle yourself with extra paperwork to study from. Try to concentrate your photographic memory on just one source so that you could be able to remember the information easily during your exam... Good luck 🙂

N.B I really don't know how many chapters since it was sometime ago, but you can check on the official website prontopass.com since every few months they update.

Check ebay if someone is selling them cheap. I got my own through a forum. Best of luck 🙂
