I will be going into college as a sophomore this fall (did 30 credits during high school). As such, I will have all of my pre-reqs, as well as some upper level courses, done by the end of my second year of "real" college (technically 3rd year). I would definitely prefer to take the old MCAT due to the wealth of study resources available, and was planning on taking it August of 2014. If I was to do this, but not apply until the 2015-2016 (or less likely the 2016-2017) academic year, would my test results still be good, or would adcoms not want to take into account two different types of MCAT scores? Again, I would prefer to take the old test, but just wondered whether old scores would be voided or their use disallowed once the new test started being administered.

I haven't heard any official announcement yet, but I anticipate that schools will accept the old scores for ~3 years (as they always have) but will accept both exams during the 2015-2018 window. I think you'll be fine if you take it in 2014 but sit on your score for a year.

Can anyone verify this? I'm in the same exact boat!

Same here, it would be nice to have this question answered... I may call AMCAS soon and ask them if no one replies.

Same. I can't imagine that they'd expire the last batch of old MCAT scores so soon, though...it wouldn't be fair to those test takers if their scores were only good for a few months.

I highly doubt that the scores would not be valid. Im sure AAMC would have included this in the release of the new MCAT exam. It doesnt seem logical to allow students to think their scores are valid when they arent. I think they will be still valid for the same amount of years as they are now.

When the SAT was revised in 2005, my brother was in the same boat: would scores of the old one be considered (SAT score/1600) or did he need the new one which also included a writing component (SAT score/2400). Turns out, either one was accepted.

My undergrad school sent out an email saying that each school has the right to choose which one to accept. Keep in mind there are certain pre-med pre-reqs that have been changed for some med schools like Harvard and a few others if you want to apply to those. But like what others have said, I can't imagine them requiring you to take the 2015 MCAT and disregarding your MCAT score that you got from 2014.

This wasn't a problem when they started the computerized testing a few years ago. I doubt it'll be one now.
