Hello,
I am transferring to University this Fall and I am thinking of taking Organic chemistry 1 in the Summer before I transfer to University. A friend of mine said that I should take all of the Organic chemistry at University whereas my other friend said it does not matter as long as I get a good grade.
I would like to know what you guys think about this!

Thank you

if at all possible, try to take pre-reqs at 4 year univ. You don't have to, but I think it will potentially benefit you when you study for DAT and also when you apply. Some schools don't take CC credits at all, and some school don't take CC pre-req credits. Also, when you take orgo 2, the transition will be smoother than if you had taken orgo 1 at CC.

If you take it at the cc, you have to get an A.

Think about it, if you get all A's at the cc there is no way of knowing if it's bc you are smart/hardworking or it's easier.

For one, there are some dental schools that won't accept cc credit.

Secondly, beyond making a decent grade, you need to learn the content from a high quality instructor to help insure that you know it well enough to perform on the DAT.

Thirdly, some schools made blatantly ask you why you did that during your open file interview.

Long story short, just take it at a 4-year university.

At the end of the day, you still have to study fot the DAT. If you ever contact dental schools, I have had an admission dean tell me he took all the prerequisites at the cc, nothing wrong with that.

If at the interview you get asked why you did that say because of finances... totally understandable.

CC isn't set at the same rigor, it's as sample as that.

Yes, I agree, but sometimes people can't take it at the university bc of situations that are out of their control (finanaces, other responsibilities).
Besides, if you really want to learn your stuff get destroyer.

I would disagree, my professor at CC told me she teaches part time at NYU as well and gives them the same work she does the students at CC. The only difference is that the majority of students at CC do worst, however the best students at the CC performed just as well as the best at NYU. I showed the work I had to do for her class to my sister who went to Cornell and she said it was just as intense.

People go to CC for various reasons, finances or a bad experience at HS. It is one thing to purposely go to CC to take easier courses for inflated grades but it is a whole different story when adcoms see that it's because of other reasons. This is why I dislike Tufts and and BUs policy of no CC pre reqs. I got a 26 in gen chem on the DAT but I have to retake gen chem 1 and 2 because of what? I did 4 dental pre req classes at CC (gen chem 1,2 gen bio 1,2) because my associates required them and excelled. I went to a four year and continued to excel, my grades were the same. In fact my lowest grades came at CC, I got a C in calculus there and half the class dropped out , the professor used to teach at MIT.
