Taking pre-reqs while abroad

I might be studying abroad next year for the entire academic term and read that it would be bad to take pre-reqs while there because medical schools look down upon it. Is there someone who knows how true that is? And if so, what if it's pretty much the only option I have available, will that still negatively impact my application?

I believe the requirements should be taken at a US or Canadian institution, that includes the 90 semester hours as well.
