One of the programs I interviewed with said that I was taking COMPLEX 2 PE too late to be rankable.

The PD said it was a policy instituted a couple of years ago when a person who matched failed Step 2 PE and couldn't start on time. I'm not sure how many programs have this policy. It seems to make enough sense.

I'm taking the test way too late, in early April. The program would prefer I take it so the results could be in before rank lists are turned in.

The hilarious part is THERE IS NO ROOM TO TAKE THE TEST EARLIER! I check everyday.

What a drag, man. Someone needs to throw down some cash for another test site and some more docs because this is just BONKERS!

Anyone else hearing similar things from other programs?

The AOA certainly didn't think of all the ramifications of opening up new schools, enlarging class sizes, eh?
Out of curiousity, when did you register for the Comlex PE? I'm taking Step 1 a little late and can't register for either Step 2 until I take Step 1.

I took COMLEX Step 1 in June of 2006, right after my second year. I registered for Step 2 PE in like, September of this year, and by then, things were already tight. But I wasn't aware of the urgency at that time. I imagine I could've squared an earlier test date as late as October. Maybe I'm being optimistic.

Good luck, man. Square that date pronto.

Good Luck to you too. Maybe something will open up sooner for you or maybe the program that won't rank you due to the date of your Comlex PE wouldn't have been the best program for you anyway.

Oh, I posted the same question to you in the psych forum(I'm hoping for psych too🙂 ). Obviously you don't have to answer it there too.

You know, the program with that policy said that they could make an exception for me because my other scores were high and my application was otherwise strong.

The kicker is that we can't maneuver for anything, and I don't know how many other programs have similar policies....

Drag.

I know you! You are such the slacker ...how's it going so far...

Me? Same ole thing, just slackin. Good to see you're still keepin' on.😛

I sympathize with your situation. I registered for my PE back in July and only got an opening in the early fall due to a cancellation. I still have not gotten my score back yet.

One of the many disgraceful effects of this worthless waste of a thousand dollars is that if you fail (which is happening it seems, with no correlation to your academic performance or 3rd year grades) then you can't graduate with your class, period. There are no open spots left in 2008 that would allow you to get your scores back in time to graduate on time with your class and start residency on July 1.

I think of all the things that have really angered me in regards to the AOA, the NBOME, and the business of osteopathic medicine in general over the past 4 years, this is the ultimate insult. I've become very, very bitter towards the AOA and NBOME over this mess. In fact, I've resolved never to join the AOA or donate one cent to them once I'm done with my allopathic residency. I know people will say you can't effect any changes unless you work within the system, but I just can't stomach the thought of sending $600 or whatever to the AOA.

I can remember the AOA presidents coming a couple of time to our school and fielding a question-and-answer session (or actually, a question and deflection session). After numerous complaints about the number of new schools opening, the COMLEX PE, the NBOME, etc, the answer never changed. "The AOA can't control the NBOME, etc. The AOA can't influence AACOM". Why the hell should I pay dues to organization that uses it's own worthlessness as an excuse for a total lack of advocacy for it's young?

It isn't the test site's fault that some people wait too late before registering for the exam and get a late date.

I registered later than most of my class and got a November date.

.

Oh they did, they just didn't care.

Absolutely. They know that none of us are going to risk the quarter-million dollars in loans we have to protest this nonsense. Really, what choice do you have at this point but to play their game and get licensed, and out from under their control?

Impressive.

I remember trying to register in late August and everything until late February was filled.

The point is the traffic. We shouldn't have to register months in advance. There should be more maneuverability.

No?
